  • Hazards: As far as I can remember, there were no specific hazards present.

  • Protective Clothing/Equipment:

    • Camera/Smartphone
    • Gloves
    • Flashlight
  • History and Background: The Union Ironworks was founded in 1856 by the steel wholesaler Schemman and the metalware manufacturer Thiel. In 1868, the Miether brothers bought the factory and ran it until 1878. From 1878 to 1903, it was managed by Herman Wupperman.

  • Observations/Impressions: Only the buildings remained, no inventory. Everything was very old and decaying, with a lot of vandalism.

  • What I Liked Most: The fern

  • Vandalism: Present in the form of destruction and arson.

  • Condition: Poor

  • Notes: We encountered two graffiti artists on the day. There are rumors that row houses will be built on the premises.
